So I think I'm either getting the Orion1200d or the Viper 1200.1.

Both of these amps put out 800w at 2 ohms, 1200 at 1.

Which would be best for my RL-p 15"? I want SQ, if it matters.

Depends on your enclosure.

If you can get the sub to full Xmax with 800W, is there any point is using more?

I would be inclined to go with 800 to be on the safe side. Mush more than that and you're just creating more heat, and like the other guys said, that could lead to fried coils.

in my experiences with rl-p's, they work very well off of 700-800 watts rms ported.

I'm not really sure I see an option here for 800w or 1200w. Assuming you have the D4 version of the subwoofer (the only option currently available from SS), then you only have the option of 800 given that's what both amplifiers output at 2ohm. And if you have the older D2 version, then your only option (of the two stated power output levels) is 1ohm and 1200w.

You need to decrease the size of your sig images. Read Jack's sig for allowable dimensions.

I have a 15 RL-p in a sealed box running 800 watts to it and it loves every bit of it. Very accurate and the SQ is great. Still gets loud but if u want to be really loud get 2
