The essense of it all

Picture001-2.jpg

Lol, well; it worked...

Picture003-4.jpg

Front and back + the rest of my wood. Mind you EVERYTHING I had was not straight. The first board to cut front and back was 15 6/8 x enough for 48'' total for front and back board, and then the smallest port board in the box. So then this still uncut long piece in the picture (also has no straight sides) was for the sides, and the top, bottome and other board for inside the port.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif The not-so-square wood rears its ugly head - Funny fact: This is all 7layer plywood that is scrap from counter tops that were made in the new condo complex across the street from work... I nabbed it out of their scrap pile.

Ah

Kinda startin to look like a box (port is cleaned up). its now about a half inch to big on the bottom and 1/4'' to big on the top, so to compensate I made it .75'' shorter.

Plenty of screws and silicone

Picture046.jpg

Really looks like a box now

Picture049.jpg

I tried to fix the oops's with the rotozip saw, and it worked well. It looks great under carpet

Picture050.jpg

Finally about to look normal

Picture051.jpg

While im doing this, its raining on my car!

Picture052.jpg

Anyways back to box

Picture053.jpg

So what I did is put in for little tiny screws to hold the carpet, and then rolled the box around and put liquid nails all on one side, then stuck the fabric to it. So then I just will over lap the 4 screws that origionally just held the fabric on.

I do have a question though...

Picture049.jpg

with that picture, on the top right corner of the box, where the top meets the side, there was a gap. Because the wood was 15 6/8'' and I needed 16'' I couldnt cut it. So I left it unsquared, and cut the other side to the same. So, when I did that it left a gap. A small one. Probably 1/8'' or less. Either way, I could see a tiny bit of light thru it. Anyhow I sealed the crap out of it with silicone. For a small crack, that should be fine shouldn't it?

But man oh man, I CANT WAIT to build a box with a nice brand new sheet of MDF. This is my second box build btw. My first was for my two TC-7s running off my P1000-1db.

POST ANY tips you might have for me, to improve on what I did, and to help me do better.

This is fun.

vc's?

i'm not sure what it could eat though.

I mean wood glue between the boards, and then thats it for inside the box. I mean drips I guess, but that wouldnt matter if it was eaten.

and liquid nails on the top holding down the carpet.....

so whats a vc lol

vc= voice coil.

when i was first into cara audio i always heard silicone will eat the surround, but i don't know..

no offense but that is one hell of a hack job box though, better luck next time.

you should use that box until you can build a better one.

voice coil.
you used clear silicon on the inside of the box to seal correct?

i have heard the fumes from clear silicon eats away at vc's as opposed to black, grey, or white.
oh ya.

hmm, I dunno. I used it with my tc'7s and i have no problem yet. and this will be airing out for the next week till I actually get the sub

And ya its terrible. I used the leftover from my fabric that matched my civic si on this. so when I actually get a straight sheet of wood, ill go get matching fabric for the pathfinder, and make a box that actually is flush, lol.

oh, and next time, ill have the right blade for the rotozip, so it doesnt freak out on me again.
