6x8,5x7

let me guess, you are driving a Ford vehicle??? or dirvartive of it, I replaced my 5X7's with 5 1/4" components, I did have to get conversion plates, but the switch to a component is so worth it

round speakers always sound better, so if you can, go with conversion plates like denim said.

You can make your own out of masonite for about $5 if you have a jigsaw and about an hour of free time. Any good audio shop will probably make them for you for about $15 if you don't have the time or the tools.

Here's a pic of what my 5x7 to 5.25 conversion looks like.....mind the shitty pioneer coax's. I killed my Quarts a few months back and haven't gotten around to upgrading yet.

The size difference between a true 5x7 and true 6x8 is so minute that most people don't even consider it and call them "identical". In reality, most manufacturers don't even change the size of the cones between the two models and instead make up the size difference in the mounting ring.

That said, I have a pair of Kenwood 6806C 3-way 6x8's in my rear deck and a pair of Kicker K57.2 5x7 components in my doors. The Kenwoods give better bass but the Kickers have a more natural sounding midrange, IMO.

I most likely will be replacing my 5x7 component set with a 6.5" component set in the near future and using a homemade masonite adapter plate as described above.
