I was wondering which would sound better in my single cab truck. A set of 6x9s are going behind the seat with my subs, but what do I put in the door? I was looking at putting a set of 6.5" components or another set of 6x9s. Which would sound better without the subs? I turn the subs off when other people are in the car sometimes, but I still want the system to sound good without the subs. I was told with the 6.5" Fanatic P component set I would lose a lot of base in the forward section of my sound stage, but would still hear it from the 6x9s in back. But if I put 6x9s in the front it would be equal but then I would not have the tweets pushing the highs. So what would y'all do?

In a typical automobile environment, you hear the front speakers first and prominently over the rears. Your money is best spent by installing a 6.5 component set in the kick pannels in the front. They will provide better sound quality and imaging as the woofer and the tweeter can be alligned separately to optimum position. I would discourage using 6x9's with subs, as they tend to pick up some of the frequencies that the woofers play as well. This causes cancelation and impedes overall system output.. On the other hand, if you are not running subs- 6x9's would benefit the system by providing a solid midbass.

I would still strongly suggest the components firstly, have a look at a few of the following:

Infinity Perfect 6.1

Morel Hybrid 6

Alpine SPR-175A

CDT CL-61

Image Dynamics CS1.6

All should easily provide the clarity and midbass response you are looking for quite well.

take it easy,

A friend of mine just bought some Infinitys, and now he is gonna give me his Fosgate Fanatic P components, so I will probably put them in the doors. Or should I put them behind the seat and use the 6x9s in the doors. I am cutting my subs off at 80Hz with my lowpass, I was going to cut the 6x9s and the components off at either 80HZ or 175 HZ, my HU (sony mx610 has a built in crossover for the RCA outputs). so if i use those cuttoff freqs can I use the 6x9s behind the seats without too much sound canceling itself out?
