5_1/4 vs. 6_1/2 How much of a difference?

Well, just as the title says: how much of a difference is there in the sound quality? If I had two speakers, one being 5.25 and the other being 6.5 and everything about them was the same except for the size, how much of a difference could I tell in the sound between the two?

The trade off between them is usually the 6.5 plays lower in the midbass (below 100hz), and typically handles a bit more power.

But 5.25's usually blend with the tweeters better (they can play at higher frequencies than a 6.5, like up to 4-5khz).

i have a love/hate relationship with my 5.25's. Ok... thanks for the info. Is this is a good deal? Alpine SPR-13S 5-1/4" component speaker system at Crutchfield Signature

What would be a good amp to go with those comps? Also, I am a noob (a very large one) and I was wondering what a crossover does...

A crossover blocks unwanted freqs from a speaker to prevent it from playing the freqs which it isn't capable of.

A HP-High pass, lets only the highs pass (at what ever selected freq you chose, or is fixed in a passive xover)

A LP-Low pass, lets the lows pass (at what ever freq you chose, or is fixed in a passive xover)

A BP-Band pass, lets a restricted band of freqs pass, an HP at one end and a LP at the other

A SSF, Sub Sonic Filter is a HP filter but at a low freq then the rest (~25-35Hz) to protect the sub.

A Passive xover is one that is a bunch of coils and caps and goes after the amp, between the amp and the speakers and has no power,

An Active xover has it's own power and goes some where in between the HU and the amp/s.

Comp sets will come with mids, tweets, and a pair of crossovers. If u dont use the crossovers you will be running active if you use them you will be running passive.

Running active will sound alil better and will allow you to adjust your freq as you like them. Passive is easy just set it and go other than setting of ur hpf which will be determined by what speakers you go with.

Your amp powers the speakers.

An active xover uses a 12v power source to function, whereas passive is "powered" by the amp.

my active crossover doesn't use a 12 volt power source and its not located between my head unit and my amp.
