Well im getting tired of spending $500 a month in gas driving my truck around. so i figure if i can get a car that gets close to twice the gas milage my truck gets and only spend maybe $500-600 the car will pay for itself in about 3 months. so basicly looking at 80s vehicles. what would be some good cars to look into to use for commuting 100+ miles a day?

94 mazda 626 is my first and current car (now 19 years old). Gets about 30 miles on average (given that i drive the absolute piss out of it, but I drive 60% highway or better.). I couldn't get the car to dip below 26 mpg when I tried to get the worst mileage possible. Best was like 34. Car cost 800 bucks, rides nice, handles great, and accelerates decent. Gotta get a stick though, cuz mid-90s 626 automatics are horribly unreliable. Oh yeah, seats five and has a decent trunk and is reliable. Great first car.

32 my *** ...

29 highway, 23 combined ... and that was when it was new ...

Oh, the old diesel Rabbits and Jettas get insane fuel economy ... Those would be good choices ...
Yeah that may say that but i have been driving a Chevy celebrity for years now and the one I have was getting 32 on the highway and 25 in town. Not to mention your link is to a bigger engine than what is in my car and that car is a year newer than mine

this link is more accurate for my car buddy http://www.fueleconomy.gov/***/noframes/4544.shtml

It says 31 on the highway and 24 in town. Mine I have done things to like got rid of the catalytic converter and put in a better air filter. Like I said I did the math both for intown and out and I was getting 32 on the highway and 25 in town.

You might want to sit down and do a little math to figure out how many miles it takes for that car to pay for itself, price of the car, fuel it takes compared to the truck, insurance, tags, etc. Then see how much it saves you.

If it still saves you money, by all means go find some little geo metro or something. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
