does the basket affect the performance of the woofer? if a 4 and 12 spoke basket both have 8 inch spider landings will one allow more excursion than the other?

12 spoke has more clearance so to speak. It is a few inches taller.

The 12-spoke may have a bit more clearance, but whether or not it will realistically effect performance... I doubt it.

I've never once had a sub move so much one-way that it hit the basket...

i'm thinking about a recone. but i'm not sure if i should use the 4 spoke baskets or get some newer ones. if it doesn't really matter i'm gonna keep the 4 spokes.

the problem with the 4 spoke is there is no cooling for the the coil(no vents). use 6 spacers between the basket and motor you can stack washers even...

i've seen that done a few times. has anyone ever got dirt or saw dust down in there like that?
