4" airspace?

I put a single subwoofer setup in my Jeep liberty. It's a sundown audio E-series "12 in a ported box. If I face the subwoofer towards the back of the tailgait it give me around 4" before the sub hits the door. Is 4" enough or should i move the box to the left or right. Not sure if i the port will be good that way. Thanks for any suggestions.

I could be wrong, but I would say port 4" away from the door/trunk is pretty optimal if you're trying to get as loud as possible. I used to have a box I built with the port facing the back and subs facing up, and that was the loudest position for me.
