There are several head units that have 6 channel outputs with crossovers that will low pass the sub, bandpass the mid, and high pass the tweeter, usually in 1/3 oct steps and some with selectable slopes. I do just that with my Alpine 9887. I haven't ran across head units with 8 channel outputs besides the Pioneer DEX-99RS. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-1aXaMYuLtS3/p_130DEXP99R/Pioneer-Stage-4-DEX-P99RS.html Typically, For 8 channels you need an external processor. Alpine, JBL, Audison, Pioneer all make a good 8 ch processor that lets you do an active 3-way front + sub. You can still do an active 3-way front + sub with a 6 channel HU, but you need additional crossovers in the amps that give you the additional channels.
