2 JL 10W7s or 2 12" 88120 Eclipse Alums?

Which subs would you pick, all things being equal?

Wow.. looks like the poll is evenly divided. Twelve people would take the W7s and 12 people say go for the Eclipse's.

I've decided to go with the Eclipse's. Thanks for the opinions.

and jl have had 7 years of r+d to produce "the bust sub ever" - yeh the w7's good, but if they took that long, they should have had a good look at the competition, dd, re, eclipse ti included - the ti is around 3-4 yaers old as far a si remember and it can still hold its own against the w7.
Also JL says you can't break the W7 well thats just not true cause I broke it quite easily. I've blown both the Eclipse Ti(had the excursion to a good 3" one way) and the W7(well that thing just broke what else can I say) as for the SVC of the W7 against the DVC of the Ti power hungriness is something both these woofers share. I got each of them to draw over 80A of current before I blew out my secondary set of fuses off of 2 500/1 JL amps. I'd have to say that fully juiced 1000 to the Ti and 1000 to the W7 they are dead even though in SQ and in SPL. I would take the $$$ you'd spend on 1 of these woofers and get 4 88100DVC Eclipses.

Very good as long as you have the interior space to allow the soundwaves to form. Considering they'd be running close to 2800RMS(for 4 88100DVCs), if I were to do that in my car, the SPL would be more than you should ever have in a car you're driving around with excellent SQ because of the efficiency of the 4 drivers playing together. Gotta remember with the level of excursion bewteen those 4 cones you would be moving absurd amounts of air so I'd recommend doing no more than 3 in a car, but in an SUV I'd go with 4 12s over 4 10s.

hey marcus.... I actually HAVE a 1001 on 2 JL 10W7s heh. First of all what kind of car do you have. Second what all else are you putting in their. OH! and next you have to get the the LFQ bass boost module for the amp. Thirdly what kind of box are you putting the subs in. As far the eclipse goes every heard two very bad things about them. One of which is they are extremely inefficient (and for the matter so is the X1001 so that might be a bad combination of inefficiency, which means extreme power needed) The other is that they sound very tinny which to me is a bad thing. I think the SQ on the W7s is very nice and the SPL is very good also. I have arelatively large vehicle so its really hard to fill it with extreme bass. I havnt had my system metered yet but I would guess its somewhere in the 143.5-145 SPL range which is awesome for 2 10s sealed. That amp with the LFQ is just pounding those subs. It has way too much power for just 2 of them and I would go as far as to suggest 3 10W7s or 2 12W7s on it as long as you have the LFQ. You also need to have 1/0 gauge ran to it and a strong alternator and deep cycle to get the amp all the power it wants. I have an eclipse headunit and my bass doesnt get any louder past sub level 4 on it (it goes up to 16) because the subs just cant handle anymore from that amp. It is loud as hell though, dont get me wrong heh. (not to mention my amps gain is only at 2/3 and the lfq is set at 8 db). Its very good setup but that amp could easily handle 1 ohm and some more subs. Hope this helps . . .

Bobby, I have a BMW 5 series.

Regarding the efficiency of these products, that could be why the shop called me late yesterday and said it would be recommended to run a dedicated battery to the stereo system and have a dedicated battery for the car.

As for the LFQ bass module, I believe that was installed.

We're using a small sealed enclosure to house the subs (exactly what the Eclipse subs like).

Yeh well remember that having 2 batteries serves 0 purpose except for when the car is off.... you need to upgrade your alternator if anything to solve a lack of power problem. At any rate should be a very nice amount of good sounding bass. Make sure you got that LFQ cause it makes a big difference. Enjoy it, I know I enjoy mine. Heh except for the fact that I can feel myself going deaf....

Bobby, thanks for the advice. By the way, the battery is being added so that i can turn the car off when i bump the stereo; there's no other reason for it.

As to the bass module, I've ordered it already; unfortunately no one is town has one, so i won't get it until Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm told it really makes a big difference.

Thanks.

Take care.

You would need a pretty large and well designed enclosure, but that would be nice and loud I was listening to one of them last week. How much SPL are you looking for while still having SQ because using a 15 will make you lose some since 15's are a bit slower than the smaller subs.

what are the specs on a jbl 1200.1. if i am correct i think it is 1200 watts at 2 ohm mono so you may want to get two of the single voice coil aluminums. i have heard that that amp is supposed to be stable down to 1 ohm but have also heard some people say that it will fry soon after it is put at one ohm. best bet is to wire 2 of the single 4 ohm voice coils in paralell and drop it down to 2 ohms and run it mono. and about eclipse you will be satisfied because a large part of my system is eclipse and i love it.
