So im putting 2 10s in the trunk and getting away from the 1 15 that i didnt have room for in the first place. is there any benefit to having a seperate chamber/port for each driver aposed to 1 big chamber with 1 big port? room isnt an issue since there just 10s. whos game to design me a plan?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

im thinking im actually going to try aero ports. the last time i tried to figure out how there calculator worked i couldnt get it. time for another go at it...

well when the two subs are in different chambers seperate from the other sub they don't fight for the airspace they'll have there own airspace to work with if im wrong someone please correct me

You are correct in saying they wont fight for airspace in 2 seperate chambers, but if the single chamber has enough space for each woofer then they wont be necessarily fighting, more like working together.

To the thread starter, its really your own personal preference. I always liked 1 big *** port instead of 2 smaller ones because it looks cooler and people go "whoa look at that port".

If you do blow a woofer then yes the other will not function properly with a single chambered box... so my advice is, dont blow it.

yea but i was mostly says on a two sub setup normally it's got like a right and left channel and sometimes the left sub will go up and the right sub go down so wouldnt that be kinda fighting

yea, like i said before im toying with the idea of aeroports but i dont get this shit. im on PSPs site and im looking at there calculator.

Volume of Box in Cubic Feet 2.5

Tuning frequency 40Hz

Port diameter 6 inch port

Number of Ports 2

the out put tells me i need a straight length of 33.71 (im assuming inches as it dosnt say) and a flared length of 34.71

now if i change the number of ports to say 6, the lenght should go down becuase the more ports you have, the more port area, the less the lenghth should need to be to get the desired freq. so lets try it. 6 ports gives me...

71.81 straight

72.81 flared

how does it need double the lenght if you are doubling the number of ports. all common sence tells me that the lengh should be cut in half if you double the amount of ports...? what the hell am i missing?

AND BTW, what are the 2 different numbers for? is the straight number the lenght of just the pipe, and the flared number how long it is after the flares are on? so basicly the flares add one inch of lenght?

Your reasoning is flawed. the more port area you have, the more length you need to achieve the same tuning. Ngsm13's sticky on enclosure design might explain why. I'm sure it's jsut more of a ratio thing than volume. Also, the different lengths are for different type of ports. If you want to use aeroports, you need the flared measurement. I'd use flared ports anyway, because it helps avoid port noise. In all actuality though, I don't think you need so much port. One 6" aero would probably be just fine. Depending on the 10s, but I think it's be enough.

ahh that makes sence. i knew i had to be overthinking something in my logic. thanks man

so why does everyone use more than 1 though? i always so like 4 or 6, 6 inch ports, not just 1...

this istall is going to be some cheap *** Power akoustics my cousin has laying around. ill also be swapping them out with a set of cadence 10s i have laying around. between me and about 3 friends/ family we have a lot of 10s. mainly just looking to waste some time and money on a build, and get my feet wet with aero ports...

so according to the calc, i can use 4, 2 inch pipes that are 8 inches long... im looking to use atleast 4 to 8 pipes all together. im inverting the driverts and the pipes will be above them. i think it will look cool having 4 evenly places above the drivers...

because theorhetically More port area = more air flow
But be careful because too much port area will not load the sub properly. Think free air....... It is speaker dependant as stated.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

ok well i think thats what its going to be unless someone can stear me in a better direction. four 2 inch tubes. 8 inches long gives me my 40HZ.

4 2" ports is only 12.56 sq. in. of port area. You should use at least double that. Try 2 4" aeroports. Should work decently for you.
