2 15"s vs 2 12"s

the problem im having here is which ways the subs can face in the trunk. I've got 2 15 subs that of course are louder than the 12"s so i'd like to have them as my setup and just throw away the worthless 12"s. but i can't have both 15" subs facing the trunk side by side, however i can have both 12" facing the trunk side by side. So would having the 15"s one be hehind the other facing the trunk be louder than having the 12"s side by side facing the trunk?

thought i'd clear this up a little... both 12"s i have are in a dual sealed box with a cube sealed each so 2 ft cubed. each 15" i have are in 2 cubed sealed boxes. the 12"s are powered at the same rate as one of the 15s. so would the 2 12"s be pushing more air harder against the trunk than just one of the 15"s? well alright im not just talking about the physical air alone being pushed against the trunk but the sound waves as well, hence when i have the 15"s behind each other and not just side by side like the 12"s. So the question is would 2 subs with half the total power possibly being used considering only one of my amps would be needed to move them compared to both 15"s instead of the 12"s make more spl in the car due to the placement of the subs, or would the 15"s being behind each other but only one of them getting the full benefit of being against the trunk itself? and would the 15" thats behind the one facing the trunk counter out much or any of the other ones sound waves bouncing off the trunk?

k lets assume you have 2 12s same model with same motors and power as 2 15s but you just can't fit the 15s side by side like the 12s. which would end up having more spl output reach the cabin?

Yea as lostdaytomorro stated also , I would do (2) 12's ported/tuned if your looking for mainly high spl . If you put the 15's one behind the other it will cause a serious cancellation of the sound waves therefore hindering the overall sq and spl output .

if i was going to redo any boxes i could just put the 15s side by side and custom fit it, but i was just wondering about the placement of the 15"s behind each other and if it would cause much cancelation. Sound travels around 4.065 million feet per hour, wait would the pressure effect the speed of the sound coming from the subs? thered be roughly 1.5 feet of difference between the 15's when behind each other. and if both subs were hitting at precisely the same time then the sub behind the other sub would have it's sound hit the trunk .079 seconds slower than the one in front of it. so would the cancelation only be for

Believe me Ive tryed it back in my day and its noticeable .You'll see what I mean If you try it . The bass sounded "dirty" and the overall output was decreased . Even tho you did the equation and what not you have to remember also when your subs are moving they move in and out many times per second depending on the Frequency they are playing at . Its constant cancellation . As the rear sub fires it bounces off the rear of the car and starts to travel up front . At this time the front subs fires and collides with the rebounding sound waves from the rear sub . Although It was louder and sounder better when I faced the front sub foward and had the rear sub still firing back . This was all done in a 01 Honda Prelude.
