ok. i got a tempest and the basket is pretty torn up. USPS decided they didnt like the package and mangled the hell out of it. its all warped and what not.

so i was thinking i could get a recone\rebasket for it.

steve kephardt, if youre reading - could it be 'upgraded' to somthing better?

an aluminum basket and a dvc2 or dvc4 sub? maybre redone by RE (teamPSI where are you!?)

how about IA or SS (mike, where you at?!)

maybe ascendant (chad? re-do it like an atlas?)

just ideas. what do you all think?

ive seen that one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i think an temptlas would be a sweet subwoofer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

tempest+atlas //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

would be nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i emailed chad at ascendant audio. ill let you know - because the avalanche can be an 18 that is DVC2 and will take 1000rms

That'll be sweet. As long as it's not over $175 shipped because thats what Dave from MMATS is charging me. Also let me know what your going to have built when it comes.

Thanks req. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif

Your best bet would be to take it to a local re-coning place and see if they can do it. We don't rebuild the Tempests because it isn't cost efficient to do it. And you will probably have difficulty finding another manufacturer to do it as the Tempest uses very tight gaps in it's motor. Without proper spacers, any rebuild attempt will probably rub.

wow steve. i really didnt expect you to reply so fast - props to you guys at adire.

so what would a local reconing place be //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif because i dont know of too many local shops, not to mention ones that will recone drivers like the tempest.

Andrew,
Thank you so much for your email. While you could say that I am a busy guy, there is nothing more enjoyable to me than hearing from people who like our products and support us. Taking the time to write is something that I truly appreciate. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The only problem with trying to recone that motor is that the Tempest uses a 2.5 inch voice coil. We only use 2 and 3 inch voice coils in the Atlas and the Avalanche. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif There is not much that we have laying around in the way of

2.5 inch voice coils.

I am sorry that I can't make anything like that happen for you. I agree, there is nothing cooler than having one-off prototype subwoofers. I used to haev quite a collection of them myself before I started this company.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Again,

I am sorry that I can't rebuild your Tempest for you. Let me know if there is anything else that you need and thanks again for your email.

I believe when he said it wouldn't be cost effective to do, he didn't just mean Adire....he meant for anyone to do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif You'd be better off to just buy a new sub.....

well, i am buying a new sub.

but why waste this beautiful motor?

it cant be impossible - he told me to get it reconed by a 'local place' - so it IS possible, just impractical for them to do and make any kind of profit on. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Unfortunately the new Tempest will be completely different. The parts in the new Tempest won't fit in the old Tempest.

I did some checking, and found out that we do have the parts to rebuild a Tempest. So if you are interested, we could probably do it for you. E-mail warranty@adireaudio.com and we will get you the details.
