I couldn't believe my eyes (or my ears).

A guy from Greenup, KY absolutely astonished me last night with four "1.8kw" Legacy amps and four 12" Pyramid Pro subs. They were installed in an IROC style camaro with the back seat removed in a huge ported box. I would have never believed it, had I not seen it with my own eyes. I guess this goes to show that the old addage about "10% product, 90% install" is more like "1% product and 99% install".

The saddest thing is that most of us don't post those sorts of numbers with our name-brand equiptment. He told me he had a total of about $600 invested in the system. That's less than I have invested in my head unit, amp and sub, and I don't post anywhere near those numbers.

I don't think thats so impressive with 4 12's ported and 7200 watts. Even if they only put out like 6 or 700 a piece thats still 2800 watts or so. Granted it was a linear x, but still not that great.

that's not an impressive score at all.. even for pyramid..

There are several guys in WV that turn that number, with 2 Super Pro 18's sealed, and 600-900 watts total..

My guess-timate for the four amps is probably about 1800w (4x450) RMS. Since they were all running in four ohm mode, I'd bet it's probably lower than that.

It's not the fact that he did it with "sub-par" equiptment that amazed me, it's the fact that he spent so little on his system and got those sort of results. I personally spent $121 for my sub, $220 for my head unit, $60 for my crossover, $205 for my sub amp, $120 for my mid amp, $170 for my components, $25 for my tweeters, and somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 for materials for my sub box, wire, blocks, fuses and RCA's. That's $1121 total, and I paid less than retail for everything. $521 more than this guy spent and he's got me by seven and a half db's! Granted my install looks better and will probably last longer, but I'm still amazed.

i think that the loudness and numbers isnt what you pay for at all when you buy high end equipment (still it usually is a little louder) but you pay for the quality. These pyramid subs, did they have dual stitched surrounds? how about the warranty? and did these amps have 2 ohm capabilities? what do you think the life of this system would be compared to the same setup of rockford, kicker, jl, or any other major brand out there?

thats what i think

Just remember, anyone can make a car fart... For just about any price.

It's who farts the loudest that counts...

there used to be a regal with no backseat in northwest ohio with 8 pyramid 15's and amps. he did 155's-157's then the next yr he got vega strokers in his dodge truck kicker amp to each one.....mid 160's

One of the better sounding systems in our town is 3 12 pyramid hyperpro subs with a bd500.1 amp. I was impressed when our rivials (other store) hooked it up and in a comp metured at 1148.9 dbs. Very impressed.
