14.4 power rating vs. actual output

ok the title of this tread maybe a bit comfusing. i was wondering about how much power is lost because most car systems are not exactly 14.4.

for example say i had a 1000 wrms amp at 2ohms (rated at 14.4) but what if my charging system would only put out 13 volts due to stairn on my batt/alt.

my question is how much of that 1000wrms rating would i see if i could only put out 13 volts?

around 700-850
thats kind of what i thought. this kid i know (no names) thinks he knows a lot about car audio. he said that hes going to buy one of the JBL Crown amps and run it at 12 volts. but if you look on jbl's website all their amps are rated at 14.4. and he was trying to convince me that he would only lose 50wrms. i realized that kid was crazy didnt know anything about car audio and full of shit

So dropping the voltage 10% will result in a 20%-25% loss in power? Also what is a bigger factor to look at, the voltage the amp is seeing or the amount of extra current flow in your vehicle?... or are they equally important?? Sorry for jacking the thread original poster, but I think we are both wanting to know the same thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

dropping voltage means about 15%-25% loss in power, it all depends on the cars voltage level , certain car run higher , some run lower, just depends....

The Crown amps have a regulated power supply ... and are decently underrated ...
That's what I was looking for. It depends on if the amp is regulated or un regulated. If it's regulated it won't lose much power 1000w @ 14.4 would be about 900-925 @ 12v, but if it where unregulated than you'd see that 20% drop, if not more. There are other factors to account for. It's mostly (95%) in the amps design.
