12v/14v/16v

What all is involved in changing from a 12v to a 14v system/ 14v to a 16v system? Is it as simple as buying 14v batteries and an Alt. that will charge 16.8 ? Or is there a lot more to it then that? Also is there another way to maintain 14.4 without upgrading from 12v to 14v? If I didn't ask these questions correctly please feel free to correct my grammar. .Thanks

You need to keep the stock alt and battery for the car kept at 12 volts charging system. Then add a 2nd high output alt and battery bank in the rear and this setup will be 16 or 18 volts purely for audio.

If you cant maintain 14.4 volts with your current high output alt then something is wrong.

If you cant maintain 14.4 volts with your current high output alt then something is wrong.

Mostly true. If you only have room for 1 alt or want as much power as possible for the back you can get a step down module. A step down module allows you to run only higher voltage alternators and taps off that to make a reduced voltage supply for your car. There are also batteries that are 16v that have a 12v tap for your car.
