12" ICON or 12" HDC3

okay.. so im thinking of getting a new set up. right now i currently have a 12" cv vmax in a ported box @ 32. it gets loud for one 12 but i think i have found a buyer for it. so with that said, which of the two is a better bang for the buck? im looking for a good mix of SPL and SQ. also how much of a difference are they compared to the cerwin? thanks.

What amp would you be using? These 2 subs have very different power handeling and are generally used for two different purposes. Although the icon will indeed get loud and the HDC can certainly sound decent.

i don't have much experience with car audio. i know the basics but the only other systems i can compare mine two are the ones here at my school. my friends don't know jack squat about car audio. my one 12" cerwin is the loudest system in my school lol.

the hdc3 will need more than a 1000watts to get going...even if it is the copper coil...so in this case I would say the ICON

The icon would probably be louder on 1000w, and would sound better. The aq is a spl sub with a high fs and a very stiff suspension, not exactly what you described as what you wanted

Not that the HDC won't get loud off 1000 watts but I would choose the icon. Much more efficient.

what amp you have? its the difference of not being able to use a specific design that best suits your application... if you can get 1kw @2ohm i would go with a DD 2512a other than that i would probably recommend RD elite if you can afford it..

don't have one yet. the one i have right now powers my vmax at 600rms. i will sell it along with the cerwin. i was thinking of maybe a bxi1606d?

I have 2 SSA Icon's in my trunk. they sound very good ;] I also did use a Hifonics BXI1606d to push them both. They sounded clean and bumps hard. Now Im using a kicker zx2500.1 to push them. Still sound good. Im selling all 3 if your interested.

if you get the bxi2006, then you can get the hdc3, 2000rms will be pretty good.

do you guys think i'll need an extra battery if im going to run 1000-1200rms to an iCON? im planning on doin the big 3 before i install the ICON.

also.. how does FI Q compare to the ICON?

according to DJL the AQ supposedly drops in FS by 8-10hz down to about 28-30hz on the 15" model after break-in.
