10" JL W7 vs 12" L7

My buddy asked me about this today and I wanted to hear everyone's opinion.

If he is looking for just some loud bass to shake his car, what setup does he go with.

10" JL W7, 500/1 amp, Pro Wedge Box

or

12" Kicker L7, zx750.1 amp, 2ft^3 ported box tuned at 32hz

He drives a dodge srt-4

What are your thoughts?

The kicker would probably be louder (way more cone area and a little more power), but the JL would sound ALOT better.
I have seen JLW10's get plenty loud with my friends JL 1000/1 on it, but I'm pretty sure the L7 in the right ported box would be louder. Now if he had a 12W7, it would probably be close.

Is there a reason he's only choosing those 2 setups? If he's limited on his budget he should let us help pick his gear out. He'll get much better SQ and loudness for the same money spent at a shop (if that's where he's gonna get his setups).

The OP probably suggested the kicker set up while his friend is looking at the JL set up.

more xmax on the w7 over kicker, which pwns the kickers surface area

same power handling, if not the w7 could take a bit more

the 10w7, 500/1 amp, and pro wedge is my exact setup....the gf loves it! she says she likes how it vibrates her body ahem but anyway, it gets pretty loud and the sq is freaking amazing (drool)

sq is not AMAZING, but it's fairly good

no offence but it sounds like your friend needs to stop listening to the local car audio shop and hop off the bandwagon(although you said he drives an SRT4... bout the biggest bandwagon there is) and instead of sending you on here he should do a little reading himself. a 500/1 and a 10W7 would cost a pretty penny, for the same amount of money there are many combos that would sound just as good SQ wise and probably be louder.

anyways my vote goes to either a FI BL12 and an aq1200d, or an HD3C 12 and an aq1200d

i'd say the Q, or the icon, or the IXL's but by the simple fact he had the L7's in the mix hes not going for SQ. and yes i know the L7's have won SQ comps... but MOST people who compare an L7 and a W7... just want to get loud...

L7 louder, w7 cleaner ( not by much though). But if you want sq w6 is your choice then
