1 Million Pains in Behringers Side

Any consumer electronic device must meet FCC Part 15 standards for electromagnetic interference - they can't emit spurious radiation past a certain point. FCC certification costs $$$, is time-consuming, and is a general hassle...but if you want to be legal, it's a requirement.

A $1mil NAL is steep. They ain't playin' on this one.

As compared to the revenue created in the years they were selling the unauthorized gear, though, it may not be much more than an annoyance.

I dunno what kinda money Behringer brings in annually though so I may be speaking outta my ass...

Maybe.

NAL's aren't commonly handed out to manufacturers, though...most of the ones I've read about are to radio stations for running higher-than-legal power, running 24hrs on AM, using non-type accepted transmitters, etc, etc.

Where is it illegal for an AM station to run 24hrs?!

And I knew a guy that got a visit from the FCC for running higher-than-legal power on AM....

And for operating at 27.440mHz on LSB....

And for owning who knows how much gear that isn't legal to own without a HAM ticket....

And a few other charges/fines....

If the license doesn't specifically say it, it is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

A lot of local stations that rely on groundwave for daytime coverage switch off at nighttime to avoid interference with larger stations that do run 24hrs.

With the current state of FCC enforcement, you really have to stick your neck out far to get an RDF party thrown for you, especially on HF //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Okay....I wasn't aware that some stations did that. All of our local AM stations are 24hr....one of the AM country stations was nationwide once upon a time....
