1 15" Fi Q or 2 12" Qs

I'm sure this has been discussed 1000 times, but I've tried searching on google since you can't search for terms under 3 characters long on the website's search and I didn't find very much.

First off, they'll both end up receiving 1000w a piece, and they'll be in a sealed fiberglass enclosure (I'm thinking about doing a mdf/fiberglass combo type box) with the max recommending box volume for each (that would be loudest, correct?)

I know that (or at least that's what I've read) that the 2 12s would be louder, and if I was spending the same amount of money on each setup I would go with the two 12s, but I'll have to have better electrical, a better amp, I'm buying 2 subs instead of just one, etc.

My concern is, considering that I'm going for tight accurate bass, the 15" would reduce the quality and not be as responsive for quick bass. I'm basing this on absolutely nothing, I'm probably wrong but that's just the gut feeling I have.

So case in point I want to know if a 15" sub will have less SQ than a 12" sub in a sealed enclosure, and also how much louder the 12s would be than the 15?

I'm also thinking about going with the 12s and a temporary lower powered amp and giving each speaker around 4-500w. Would the Qs still sound good though at half the rated power?

Hope I can get some feedback, I know this is kind of a long post, sorry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

2 12's hands down. The 12's would be louder. They have more surface area and you can throw more power at them.
how much louder though? loud enough to justify spending extra $5-600 after all is said and done? Money that I don't really have.

Louder. That is about all anyone can tell you. 1 15" Q ported +1000-1200 watts would be loud. 2 12" Q's, and 2000 watts ported would be louder, more surface area and power. It is all a matter of how much money you can justify.

A larger driver does not dictate SQ. Enclosure/power/electrical/tuning/driver parameters/etc will all play a bigger role than the size of the driver. Larger 15" drivers can be just as detailed as their equivelent 12" driver.

The 15" should be just as accurate and have as much SQ as the 12" the difference in cone area is pretty minimal and one 15" with as much linear throw as the Q should be loud enough for you, and 2k on stock electrical required extra batts and maybe HO alt, as well as more 1/0 gauge going everywhere, so keep it around 1500 watts and you wont have to do as much electrical upgrades

Exactly. 18's can sound just as accurate as any 10". It is all in the enclosure, and midbass, and obviously which 18.

I have no idea who continues to spread this false statement about "quickness" and "sq" is better with smaller drivers. Sh!t drives me nuts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

Being much bigger it just seems like it'd be beefier and more sluggish or something. Like I said I base it on nothing and I figured I was wrong. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Anyway I think I'll go with the 2 12s. I'll just get a temp amp that puts out around 1000-1200 watts and give each around 500 until I can get a bigger amp and a better electrical system.

That is a good plan. You could start with an AQ1200 and move up to a AQ2200 in the future. Both are solid amps that fit the bill perfectly.

No worries. There was a time when I thought this was true too.

I have had a pair of Q 12"s in my car for a few years now and absolutely love them. They have been powered by a Diamond Audio D61500.1 (that died), a SS PCA2000D ( that was a loaner and I just gave back), and now a SundownSAZ1500.1. Been very happy with all of those. I am sure you will be too.

I was definitely planning on aq2200d when I upgrade the electrical but I didn't think of the aq1200. Good call.

filtor, what kind of box do you have?
