I've got a shallow box that will mount in the rear seat of my 2006 Jeep Wrangler (hidden from view within the seat from 33 Engineering).
I can either mount two 8" or one or two 10" subs, but space is limited to 0.65 ft cubed, so I imagine one 10" is going to net the best low frequency output.
It will be powered by an Arc Audio KS 500.1 Mini amp, and I may port the box once I figure out the best way to make the modification (and what sub/s I use).
Max depth is around 4.75".
The problem is both the Falstaff and Aliante (now Mac Audio, formerly Phase Linear) are very hard to find (mainly on German ebay).
So I'm wondering what the SQ sub experts here have to say as far as alternative recommendations go.
I know, I know, it's a Jeep, and SQ is a waste of time, but given the constrictions of trying to make a totally stealth system without ANY sign of its existence, this is the box design I'm stuck with, and I'd like to have the most bass possible to counteract the 'open top convertible' environment.
The MB Quart and Diamond Audio 'inverted motor' type seem to be considered mainly 'large midbass' units, with less ability at the lowest end of the frequency range.
The same for the Morels.
The Memphis 10" seems to have some fans, but might be a little low end?
RE 10" seems to be the best alternative from the 'quasi' reviews I've found.
Kicker, Pioneer, Polk, etc all seem to be in a similar 'lower tier' category, compared with the Falstaff and Aliante speakers.
Others ideas?
Thoughts on two 8" vs one 10"? Would you agree one 10 will give greater 'bottom end' performance?
I've also bought two Kicker shallow mount 6.5" to try in the front footwell cavities for mid bass fill, so the sub is free to focus on the very bottom end. (I'm not nuts about Kickers, but I figure I'll see how they sound - I couldn't find another shallow mount 6.5" sub on the market).
Thanks in advance for your input, it is much appreciated!
