Car would not start because of amp

I've been running my type R/alpine mrp-m500 (4 guage wire) for about two months now without any problem except some light dimming at night. Yesterday as I was driving my headunit started to turn off for a second and turn back on a few times. This was the first time this has ever happened so I...

    Lights dimming

Thanks a lot to everyone, I'm glad it sounds like I wont need a cap. Can anyone suggest a resource that describes how to get a good ground? Right now I just have an existing hole that I used a nut/bolt to connect the O-terminal to (of course I sanded the paint first).

    Lights dimming

Alright, thanks a lot for all of your quick responses. Assuming I upgrade to the correct guage wire, you all are saying that I shouldnt need a cap at all, right? I didn't plan on buying one initially (the system is somewhat modest at 500W). [edit] I have a 2001 toyota solara with stock 80 amp...

    Should I use a 10" or a 12" sub?

Well I set up my system today using the alpine mrp-m500 and a sony xplod 12" 350 rms sub. Of course I have no comparison but it sounds pretty darn good. But I might take the sony back. How much of an improvement would I see using the same amp going from the sony to an alpine type r? That's...

    Should I use a 10" or a 12" sub?

Thanks a lot for all your replies. I am pretty limited because I can't order off the internet, I can only buy in stores. I highly value quality, so I'm probably going to take my back my sony sub I already bought (or borrow it from walmart for 30 days until my next check comes, hehe). I'm sure...

    Should I use a 10" or a 12" sub?

Today I bought an Alpine MRP-M500 Amplifier (300W RMS 4 ohm). I'm stuck on whether to buy either a 10 inch or 12 inch subwoofer. I'm interested in "feeling" the music, having a punch like it was an actual bass drum I guess you would say. I don't want it to be too excessively loud to people...
