    Crest??

so having distorted sound is better than having sound not dynamic ?

    need help building a box

true, but if there is high bass energy below ported box tuning frequency the subs can be damaged. a good sub amp or processor might have subsonic bass filtering for this purpose and a good sub if designed specifically for ported boxes will have very stiff spiders to protect it from...

    "Myths"

for once we can agree, the more powerful the amp the lower gauge wiring you need, if the amp cannot directly accept low gauge wire means it was never designed to be used for high power so it is ****.

    Crest??

chris, why dont you source up a dynamic compressor, i dont know if any are made for car audio but certainly this is a most widely used tool in sound recording though - you would be able to increase crest factor without the harsh clipping sound.

I can't hear my bass outside my car!! HELP!

actually it might not be possible to tune since trunk is not exactly rigid enclosure, and also now that i think about it, since it would be a bandpass box you should be tuning it to higher freq, more like 80 hz .... it would pass all freqs down from there dont try it unless youre desperate though

I can't hear my bass outside my car!! HELP!

eh, i guess goals are different for everybody. if i wanted my bass to be loud from outside i would start with lets say 1 - more power, hm.. say 2000 wrms 2 - bigger box volume, bandpass, and drivers optimised for this app 3 - throw out all the soundproofing there is on the back of the rear...

    another question about ohms

that is what i got, i got single channel 2 ohm stable amp, and two woofers that are dual 4 vc each. you either do series-parallel or parallel-series to get 2 ohms and 2 ohms is what you use. i mean what i use. depends on the amp imho, if the amp doubles (exactly doubles) power when load...

    LIghts dim

ok ok, a better test would be to just use a freaking voltmeter i dont know if any voltmeters can react fast enough to register momentary voltage changes though as they occur on bass beats ...

    Just clearing a few "myths"

i must say, i dont know what crest factor is myself, but i gather from your description of it that its a parameter that relates average to peak power in music. i myself, come from home high end do-it-yourself area, we do not worry about maxing spls there, just sound purity, i cannot see myself...

    LIghts dim

i guess the way to test your theory is to turn on the lights, and then shut off the engine, if the lights will dim by the same amount as during bass peaks, then you are correct. on the other hand if they will dim less than during bass peaks then we are both correct.

    Just clearing a few "myths"

what i am arguing is, that tweeters are not rated for continuous sinewave input, they are rated for a "typical" program full-range material passed through an appropriate crossover. if a tweeter is rated 100 watt it means you can use it in a properly designed 100 watt 2-way with an unclipped...

    need help building a box

thats the problem - bass is very cabin-dependent and cabins are different. you will not really see a 12 db boost suddenly starting at some frequency - rather it will begin higher and more gradually, becoming steeper as it goes down the frequency but never really reaching full 12 db per octave -...

    Just clearing a few "myths"

its just a matter of custom for tweeters to rate power this way. for computer monitors for example you write that a 17" viewable monitor is 19" because 19" is the size of the glass tube inside it, but for lcd monitor 17" viewable is still rated as 17" -- retarded but thats how it is and thats...

    need help building a box

sealed box is a second order system meaning it has 2 * 6 = 12 decibels per octave bass rolloff below "corner frequency." ported box is a fourth order system meaning it has 4 * 6 = 24 decibels per octave rolloff below corner frequency. corner frequency is the resonance frequency by the way. a...

    LIghts dim

"the drop that causes the lights to dim occurs above the voltage of the batteries" i am not sure what you're trying to say here, there are only 2 sources of voltage - battery and alternator. to say that voltage is about that of batteries would imply that the alternator is currently charging...
