"Best sounding" is very subjective, so you will get a bunch of different opinions on that. What's your budget like? Sub size preference? Ported, sealed or doesn't matter? In order to get a specific reply, you need to ask a specific question. Otherwise, nobody will bother responding, reply...

Are you sending it a clipped signal? Did this just start happening, or has it been going on for a while, getting progressively worse? Back the gain off a bit and see if that helps. Also, check to make sure you have a good seal between your sub and box.
