Did you have to do any special wiring for the alt? I know when I did mine from Singer I had to modify the plug and I had the constant and ignition reversed and it was causing the exact problem that your mentioning, for whatever reason the colors were reversed on mine. Swapped them and everything...

I have a similar problem. My aftermarket alt doesn't start charging until 1k rpms. My truck idles at 500 rpms (2005 ford explorer) so at Red lights my voltage driops to 11.6v :/ can't fix it for anything.

Singer did me a 350amp alt and I freaking love it! And Jim is a great dude to deal with. Sometimes they just get swamped, but well worth the wait.
