Improper Use? So just the amp is too powerful for the L7?

Box was a small, generic enclosure, slot ported. I think maybe tuned to 45-50hz at the lowest. Don't use the bass boost? Why not? Should you just put it on 0 then?

So I am thumping down I-4 with my Hifonic Brutus 1206D and my Kicker 06 12L7 Dvc 2-ohm...and suddenly on a note of a song...my sub completely blew...I have a feeling the voice coil heated up and melted through the cone... Anybody have any ideas what may have cause this??? I have the 12L7...
