    Help with grounding head unit.

Sorry just noticed there was another reply. Yes I initially had, and currently have, the factory ground connected to the head unit harness ground. I had tried to run a new ground from a bolt in the driver's footwell to the head unit harness ground, noise was still there, so I just put it back...

also, just for shits and giggles, I measured resistance between the two halves of the initial ground from the back of the HU into the factory wiring that I cut into earlier, it measured -40. As well as checking between the wire coming out the back of the HU to the new ground wire I ran earlier...

The thicker wire that plugs in, not the one in the wire harness.

    Help with grounding head unit.

I meant it must be grounded through the antenna wire because it was functioning with the actual ground wire disconnected. I confirmed this by unplugging the antenna wire and it wouldn't turn on. Then I'm thinking maybe I'll just leave the antenna wire unplugged and try to connect only the ground...

    Help with grounding head unit.

So will a head unit work without being grounded or no? If it won't it must still be grounded through the antenna wire.

    Help with grounding head unit.

I'm a total noob at this. Doesn't it mean a ground is "good" if it measures less than 1 ohm resistance?

Yeah I've got aftermarket amp, speakers and subs. The noise happens even with rca's unplugged, though it is much quieter. There is also loud popping when I use my power seat controls on the door, even with rcas unplugged. I checked the resistance between my amp and its ground. it was under 1...

    Help with grounding head unit.

Hey guys. I've been having issues with my stereo whining and popping. I initially had the head unit ground wire connected to the wiring harness, so I ran a new wire from a bolt near the hood release to the head unit area. Then I cut the ground wire coming out of the head unit and temporarily...

    Stereo popping and whining.

Hey guys, I have a 2002 Grand Marquis with a kenwood bt365u head unit, Pioneer a6886r speakers, a kenwood xr900-5 amp, and two mtx thunder 4500 10's. I'm getting engine whine, I hear noise when I touch my brakes, popping when I use the power seat controls, and occasional random popping. I...

    What ohm load is this?

I know ported is louder and more efficient, but I listen to a lot of metal and stuff with fast kick drums. Isn't the rule sealed = tighter and more responsive and ported = louder but sloppier?

    What ohm load is this?

Its a thunderform truck box. probably not the greatest but i had it lying around. It looks like this: https://www.supercrewsound.com/CXP20_-TN.html It was in an old truck i had, but I think I'm gonna get another box and put them in my current car.

Awesome. Thanks guys. Im a noob at this stuff, and the DVC thing kinda threw me for a loop.

    What ohm load is this?

Do you know if using only one coil will cut the RMS of the subs? They are rated at 250w RMS each. My amp can do 400w RMS @ 4ohms and 600w RMS @ 2ohms. Leaving it at 2 ohms sounds like the way to go, but if the RMS is cut, would I be better off wiring it to 4 ohms?

    What ohm load is this?

So this would just act like 2 SVC 4 ohm subs wired in parallel? Didnt think you could do that with 2 DVC 4 ohm subs. Most sources act as if you have to use both voice coils and can either have a final impedence of 4 or 1 ohm.

    What ohm load is this?

I cracked open an old mtx thunderform box I had laying around today, and discovered some crazy wiring. Someone put two MTX Thunder 6000 DVC 4ohm subs in it, and wired only one voice coil from each to the outputs on the box. Subs aren't connected to each other. What ohm load would this present to...
