What's distorting or damaged the speakers. If so why do they work fine when I re plug in the head unit. Or is it the head unit itself

I have a slight problem, if I turn my volume up in my car to loud or a bass hits hard the speakers will crackle at any high pitch sound or low bass. To fix this I found that all I have to do is unplug the head unit then plug it back in and it solves the problem. I was wondering what causes this...
