thanks input jrwalte - i've checked and double checked all the connections and still get the same result - however i will say that the cable that connects the HU to the clarion sirius box did get bent a little when we were putting the HU in the dash so maybe there is a pin loose? I'll look into...

The manual is pretty vague, but i've tried everything possible that it says and some things I just hoped would work and still no Sirius. The manual simply says to press the source button until the 'radio selects your satellite' which i assume to mean that as i cycle through tuner/usb/cd etc...
