I've been told, not sure by who, that you should keep the distance between the tweeter and mid-bass when installing component speakers to less that 18". My problem is I have a F-250 and with the doors as big as they are, and the speaker location, 18" would still leave the tweeter around knee...

I have seen various posts about wire size from amp to sub, and it seems that between 8 to 12 guage should be ok. My question is why should I use such a large wire when my DVC JL 8W3 look like they only have 16 guage wire from the terminals to the coil?

The diagram shows one wire from the amp the spliced. What is the best way to splice wires when dealing with subs?

Although a novice, I would strongly suggest you purchase it and have it professoinally installed. I had mine done at Circuit City, and has a lifetime warranty should any faults occur with sensors etc. Besides, my truck is worth the few dollars I spent to make sure it's secure.
