Well I'm going to use a sealed enclosure, about 1.2cf.

Would just 1 IDMAX be "loud" enough? I've read a few times on here and other places that IDMAX's doesn't have a lot of output, but they sound clean. I want to be able to "get loud" but at the same time have clean sound. Sadly, where I live I can't test out either sub.

I don't want a JBL sub, but thanks for the opinion. I didn't think the IDMAX was that much, if that's the case, then I'll end up getting just 1 sub then. I think the w6 is around $300 on ebay BNIB.

Anyone else have any opinions? The vehicle is a '04 Saturn Ion, looking for GREAT sq that can get pretty loud (no muddy sound). The IDMAX is tempting but the w6v2 seems to be the better choice. If I go with IDMAX's, I'll probably get 2 instead of 1. If I go with the w6, I'm only getting 1...

Actually those Pioneers aren't that bad sounding subs, why do you want to switch? I've heard type r's a few times and truthfully they never really impressed me. Maybe it was me tho, everyone seems to love them.
