The sub had alot of excursion felt like i was pushing it to hard

Running a 40cwr124 kicker 12 and a hifonics brx 1100.1 i set my gains with a dmm but i lowered it alot from what its supposed to be at , and it still pounds hard..am i not getting the full potential of the sub. Help pleasee
