How high should the bass be on the headunit? The highest it can go on mine is 7. And should I have the bass boost on with it?

I'm getting some weird kind of static everytime i get bass notes in my speakers...but i'm having trouble finding out if its the headunit or speakers causing the problem. Can anyone help me out?

but what does that effect the car being on or off to make the speakers pop or not.

i dont have a sub or an amp yet, i just started building the system for this car..someone told me that a factory amp might be in my car still and it might be causing the static..but i dont see it in the trunk anywhere. so any idea what it could be?
