    Nakamichi CD500 ?

... not all high end decks have to suffer from bad skipping. The Sony C90, which is not known for being a slouch in the SQ dept, has 3 seconds of anti skip memory... I've never had a skip result from a bump in the road, plus it's probably the best CD player I've seen for reading scratched CD's.

Portable Hard Drive In My Car?

Yep, that's gonna slow you down from integrating a Phatbox into your system. I still say stay away from getting an Ipod, but only because I can't stand Apples business model and would rather eat dirt than be given an Apple product to use daily. Ipod's are successful because they're flashy and...

Portable Hard Drive In My Car?

I find this statement flawed and only meant to single out those few of us who still hold quality of the reproduction in high regard. First off, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't both the Phatbox AND Ipod capable of playing back unlossy file compression formats? I know first hand that the...

Portable Hard Drive In My Car?

+1 for the Phatbox, which has high quality 24 bit burr brown dac's that will walk all over an Ipod's outputs as far as SQ goes plus you can modify the cartridge yourself to add a larger HD, which with today's laptop HD's, you could go up to 160 gb! Plus, it can be modified to work in multiple...

    Pre Amp Voltage

The major benefit of feeding a higher voltage signal into your amplifier is that it allows you to set the voltage gain lower on your amplifier, thus giving a cleaner signal through to your speakers. But as long as you're running a clean signal to and from the amplifier and everything is set...

    Final SQ Deck Choices: Poll

If I were me... (thinks for a moment and checks just to make sure) wait I AM me! Well then, in that case I would still go with the Clarion 9255. The amount of processing included in the 701 is so far above what a casual music listener would ever consider necessary, that having all of it and...

    Final SQ Deck Choices: Poll

But you're ignoring an important point. If the H701 is used with the 9855, you're not using the deck just as a transport... You're outputting an imperfect signal into the 701 using the analog outputs from the deck. The 701 then takes the signal and converts it back to digital, including all...

    Final SQ Deck Choices: Poll

It has alot less to do with how the CD player picks up the information off the cd and alot more to do with what the system does with that info while converting it to an analog signal that the rest of your stereo can understand and thereafter. I can more than "**** near guarantee" that the 9855...

Clarion DRZ9255 users .... little help please ...

I think if anyone is gonna spend that kind of money on a head, they'll take the extra time to detach the face when they leave the vehicle, I know I do. That's a big reason for me not to buy one. Another is all those LONG RCA's you gotta run back to your amps. I'd rather have my processor back...

Clarion DRZ9255 users .... little help please ...

That doesn't seem out of the ordinary at all, I would think that would be the expectation when dealing with Clarion's flagship headunit. Very nice piece I might add, but why no detachable face...?

Sony ES C-90 or Rockford 8250?

I swear it's worked across mutliple laptops of mine. Two of them were native in Windows XP and the other I was running multiple operating systems with 98 and XP on separate partitions. I found that with XP it was actually easier to get things to work right. I have no reason to make this up...

Sony ES C-90 or Rockford 8250?

I will agree that it can be tricky to get right, but I've had my 4000x for years, and over 3 laptops running Windows versions 98 and XP, I've been able to get them all to work with it in a matter of minutes. The trick is with reconfiguring the assigned comm port of the adapter you are using to...

Sony ES C-90 or Rockford 8250?

Here's a biased opinion. C-90 all the way. And on a side note Audiolife, the 4000x's software works fine with newer versions of Windows. I use a laptop that's less than a year old that has no serial port. I'm running XP Home and use a USB>Serial adapter and it communicates just fine...
