I agree, that is a good way to get started. The hard part is locating a person with the knowledge willing to share it.

I think that is what the guy I talked to was referring to. I just figured and amp works or it doesn't. He was the one that​ got me interested in looking deeper into them.

That sounds like something I cannot realistically do with the means I have available.
