Using a stock headunit with a line converter, is the sound quality and different compared to an aftermarket headunit ?

I have a stock 6 CD changer headunit that I dont really want to get rid of unless the SQ will be terrible. I had aftermarket headunits in all my other cars i just dont want to spend the money if it will sound the same, will it make any difference ?
