Rx-7 79-85 are very reliable cars if taken care of properly. You should be able to find a very nice car/with mods in your price range. Look for 84-85 SE models. Talk to other people who have them. You wont be disapointed.

Ground your amp directly to bare metal with a bolt/washer.

Do yourself a favor. Wait a couple days until you can afford the proper stuff.Don't be in such a hurry that you risk potential damage to your car or equipment. I'll admit it I burned one to the ground doing just what your thinking of. Wires, fuse/ distro.....24$ wally world.

Be patient. One piece at a time. Take your 350$ and buy a good HU. Build from there.You'll be happier in the long run. 350$ hu will last alot longer than a 350$ "complete stereo".

Clean your battery terminals and connectors

Since your using larger gauge wire, I would check to see if maybe you have excess wire making contat with opposing polarity.

If you follow the shifter cable from the shifter to the fire wall. You will find mount plate for the cable gromet assembly. When you find this remove and drill desired hole. remount and presto!
