Is 18 gauge acceptable for a very short run (100Hz high pass)

Thank you KHA! Now I can call this install done and work on a more important project this weekend. :D

Is 18 gauge acceptable for a very short run (100Hz high pass)

Title says it all - just wondering if I'm overthinking things. 100W x 4 Eclipse amp is under the passenger seat, and powers four 2.7 Ohm Polk speakers at 100Hz and up. I have 18 gauge wire running from it to behind the dash where it taps into stock speaker wires that appear to be 16 gauge. The...

How much less amp draw for high frequencies?

Ah. That answers my question. I should have been more specific about what I was trying to determine - if my Eclipse amp for my highs that is high passed at 80 hz and has a 50 amp fuse and my Fosgate amp for my sub that is low passed at 80 hz and has a 70 amp fuse would trip my 100 amp circuit...

How much less amp draw for high frequencies?

Thanks T3mpest! I did read about how amps don't draw anywhere near their max current figure while playing music, thanks to their on-board capacitor bank. But what about music with long drawn out bass lines like Bass Mekanik? I fully expect my sub amp to be drawing max current, but what about the...

How much less amp draw for high frequencies?

I know that amplifiers draw less current when running in high-pass mode, but how much less? For example, if I have an amplifier with a 50 amp max draw, what will it draw if I run it in high pass at 80 hz? Thanks in advance guys.

Need 800 watts of class D at 4 ohms

Crap. That's what I was afraid of - both of those are designed to make more power than I need at a lower impedance, making them more expensive. I may just wait for an old Rockford Fosgate 225.2 to show up on eBay. I've found them for as little as $100 and they make 690 watts into 4 ohms. Thanks...

Need 800 watts of class D at 4 ohms

Hey guys. I am looking for a class D amp that will put out 800 watts at 4 ohms. I know that's a weird impedance, but I really like my Dayton Audio Reference 15" (RSS390HO). It is on the sub channel of my Eclipse XA5000 right now, but I am considering feeding it more power. Any suggestions are...

    DIY alternative to glass antennas

What exactly about my solution do you find improper? I wanted a mast antenna and didn't want to drill holes in my car. I don't know of any other Earth technology besides a magnet that would have allowed me to do this.

    DIY alternative to glass antennas

I drive a 2007 Accord that has the radio antenna embedded in the rear glass. My deck is a Pioneer 880PRS. I had horrible reception even with power going to the stock antenna booster. I read about the universal window mounted antennas but people were saying that nothing beats a good old mast...

    Kenwood Excelon VS Alpine

I had ordered the Alpine CDE-HD148BT, but then I read where someone who was used to the sound of the Pioneer 880PRS tried out that deck and was disappointed with the sound quality. Having owned the 880PRS myself a few years back, I found this very disconcerting. So I cancelled my order and...

    Kenwood Excelon VS Alpine

I think I am going to go with the Alpine. I want something brand new. I can't seem to find any complaints about Alpine online. Can't say the same for Kenwood. Thanks guys.

    Kenwood Excelon VS Alpine

The 7100 has USB. Cool. I wanted that too. How much are you trying to get for it?

    Kenwood Excelon VS Alpine

Crap. I was afraid of that. Do the newer Eclipse CD players like the 5030 sound as clear as the older ones like mine? EDIT - I am willing to sacrifice a bit of SQ for a good FM tuner. I've never heard an Eclipse that had a good FM tuner.
