    Factory antenna amplifier = fried?

Well, let's put a fork in it - this thread is done. It's been working perfectly well since replacing the OE plug with the motorola style plug. So it seems that the inner coax conductor connection at the OE plug was the problem. I hope this info helps someone in the future....

    Factory antenna amplifier = fried?

Well, it seems that I'm just talking to myself here at this point, but for future referrence by anyone needing help with this same problem - here is the outcome: I replaced the antenna connector on the factory coax cable with a motorola style male plug. This way, I don't need any adapter for...

    Factory antenna amplifier = fried?

I wish I could try an alternate HU, but I don't have one. Plus the tuner isn't going completely dead - it always captures a signal, it's the signal strength that is the problem. That's why I'm looking at the antenna amp as a possible culprit, or the coax connector. I've determined that the...

    Factory antenna amplifier = fried?

Keep-Hope-Alive: Thank you again for the help. I truly & SINCERELY appreciate it! Although I’m an (old) amateur, I actually try to do things right – I solder the wires & use heat shrink tubing. I try to keep things orderly, but at your suggestion I did group things and used a lot of...

    Factory antenna amplifier = fried?

Good call - always check the basics! So I just went out and tested the leads, and I am getting voltage, so the antenna amp IS getting juice.

New HU integration with factory Bose amp - anybody BTDT?

keep_hope_alive: Thanks again! It works great with the Navone line output conditioners (two N-686's because they were out of stock on the 4-channel units). I initially tried it without them, but the gain was WAY too much, and there was a loud pop whenever I changed radio stations. With the...

    Factory antenna amplifier = fried?

OK – lame amateur move on my part. I installed a new HU in my ’98 Mercedes E300 (w210 chassis). It has the FM antenna built into the rear glass & a factory antenna amp. The tuner was getting phenomenally good FM reception (pulling in stations & HD stations that I never got before!)...

New HU integration with factory Bose amp - anybody BTDT?

Thank you SO much for your help! I sincerely appreciate it! You likely saved me from a lot of grief, as the clown at Bozo-Buy, er... ugh... Best-Buy told me that he just hooks up the speaker outputs directly to the Bose amp. I specifically asked him if it causes any clipping, and he just said...

New HU integration with factory Bose amp - anybody BTDT?

I'm looking to replace the HU while retaining the factory Bose amp & system (for now). From what I’ve read, the Bose amp wants a higher than normal pre-amp output voltage, so it looks like I’ll need to run the speaker level outputs through a “Line Output Converter”. (Seems that you guys...
