Sub overheating?

Sub overheating?
I bougt a Boss Audio sub and am powering it by a 1000 watt Kenwoox amp. After about an hour or so the sub gets hot and cuts out for a minute then comes back on for a few more minutes and so on. What is the cause of this?- HazmatJeff
