    Hard Rock & comps

Just interested in what comps people listen to Hard Rock thru. I've experimented with several comps (Diamond, CRT) and my 2 pairs of ADS 246 6.5" give me a realistic and balanced sound at all volumes and the silk tweeters are never harsh. I can listen to Rush at very loud volumes and the highs...

    What equilizer do you use?

Clarion 7-band. Can't live without it. Had it over 1 year and not one problem. I've used several 4-band parametric equalizers but they do not do the job.

I need to convert a video!

TMPGEnc is the best tool to convert to MPG1 or MPG2. Includes demux, mux and join options. Virtualdubmod (free) is the best tool to encode to XviD/DivX or from VOB. Endless possibilities. Go to Doom9.org forum for professional advice on audio/video, Virtualdub, XviD, Avisynth. Lots of...

    Shallow enclosures

Is the space behind the sub more important than the peripheral space? ie. If you've got 2" behind 8" 200w sub in a sealed enclosure is the sound going to be punchier and the response less smooth than if you had 6" behind the driver (with identical overall cu. ft.)?

    Need help tuning amp

Mid-bass and comps are the same? I read you should set LP for subs 10 Hz above lowest frequency of mid-bass (if mid-bass = 70 Hz set sub LP = 80 Hz). And I read that it's good to leave a gap between mid-bass HP and LP sub (ie. sub LP = 80-85 hz, mid-bass HP = 95-100 Hz).

    V at Input sensitivity=0

It seems like the same amount of voltage as the gain set ~ 20% or so. Seems odd. 10-20 Volts or so. Doesn't happen with my other two amps. This is a month old Kenwood 7102 (230W RMS x 2 ohms). I can't recall whether it was like this when I got it. Amp works fine.

    V at Input sensitivity=0

I have positive output voltage readings on my sub amp when its input sensitivity=0. Why is this? I read someone else had the same question a few mths ago but can't find the thread.

is this possible: clipping detection using a dmm?

You can calculate the amp output voltage you're looking for with your system/amp then use the digital multi-meter to find that voltage. If you exceed that output voltage you will clip the amp. The output voltage = (RMSxOhms)**0.5 or square root (RMSxOhms)...

    box stuffing?

I read one site which said at least 50% but I don't think I'd go that far. The fill is used to stop standing waves which are waves produced from the transmitted wave and the reflected wave. In a sealed enclosure (maybe ported, too) the sub functions by using pressure and I think too much fill...

    Irregular-shaped enclosures

Can you port these kind of enclosures or do ported enclosures have to be square and symmetric? My enclosure for my 8" sub is like a 0.7-0.8 cu. ft. kickpod behind the rear seats and the sub is not centered, etc.

    box stuffing?

I found this on a site the other day: http://www.rythmikaudio.com/faq.html How much polyfill do I need in the enclosure? Polyfill is used for absorbing standing waves in an enclosure. In non-servo subs, it is also used to occasionally adjust the Q value of bass roll-off. In this case, a heavy...

    Damping

Is damping when the enclosure prevents the sub from displacing too much? If you have a sealed fiberglass enclosure that is molded to the floor and doesn't have the sub centered will that effect the damping and performance?

    Slim subs

    Excellent reply. So specific.

    Slim subs

What's the reputation for shallow subs? (Kicker, Sony, Kenwood, etc.) Should they be avoided for any reasons? Do they perform as well as regular size subs?

Difference between RF & Kenwood amps

Well, my other amp powering my other pair of components is a Kenwood KAC-848 and it is maybe 100W RMSx2 @ 4 Ohms and it also clips at a low gain. So both the Kicker and Kenwood are clipping at a low gain. The internal amp on the Alpine HU is turned off and I followed instructions at several...
