Actually I did some more research and found that the Passport does indeed just re-arrange the charge pin locations. It's for head units with iPod cables that only charge the 12v firewire iPods. It changes the charge voltage to 5v for the USB iPods and moves it to the right pin. But the head unit...

It must pull some juice that would run the iPod and sends it to the charge pin in the plug. They're for the newer iPods so I'd have to use my 8gb Nano for now until I pick up a newer Classic. Oh well, it's worth a shot. Thanks!!

Something like that, but that just re-arranges which pin in the plug does the charging (and changes the charge voltage I think). My HU has no hot pin for charging at all, so I need something like that but with a cable coming out of it leading to a cigarette lighter plug end.

Scosche has the Passport, which re-arranges which pins do the charging through the interface cable, so you can charge a newer iPod with an older-style-charging head unit, but I couldn't find anything from them that actually does the charging and still allows the data to pass through to and from...
