WTB: EBC knob for old MTX amps

If you've got some electronics skills you can rig one up yourself. I contacted MTX asking for protocol information... unfortunately they provided me with SPANISH HOW-TO from another website... i almost peed my pants when I saw the reply... Anyway - the knob is just a 20k potentiometer. I can...

Driving dual voice coil sub with two independent stereo channels

Thank you very much, I appreciate that clearup. That makes a lot of sense! Thanks again I may be beating a dead horse, but is there a disadvantage over just connecting my two voice coils to a single channel in parallel? Yeah - I won't be maximizing the utilization of my amp. Oh well, I can...

Driving dual voice coil sub with two independent stereo channels

Thats everything I'd need to know. Thanks a bunch! I'll end up using one channel most likely so I don't have to worry about the RCA cables. I could do the 8-ohm load, but I don't think it'd matter either way. I got the sub for free - so no sense in complaining that I can't get maximum power...

Driving dual voice coil sub with two independent stereo channels

Thank you Not to drag it out more - but what advantage does the 8 ohm load bridged have over just using a single channel?

Box Porting - is location important?

I've learned a lot. First - I'm going with a circular port on the side. No more slotted ports. Second - no, position does not matter Third - yes length DOES matter

Driving dual voice coil sub with two independent stereo channels

Cool - thanks a lot for the help Don't you think I may blow the sub if I power it at 600-700 watts RMS?

Driving dual voice coil sub with two independent stereo channels

Ahh, I see what you're saying. Yes - you're right. I do not plan on bridging the amp. I will probably just parallel it and run it to one channel. Thanks for the help, Blaine

    2001 Chevy Lumina - Battery Location :(

Basically everyone seems to know where these side posts are but I can't seem to find them. I don't really know what I'm looking for. Are these metal knobs with red caps somewhere? Or - do you mean the side posts on the battery? I can't get to them hardly at all with a jumper cable, let alone...

    n00b: What is Tuning?

I have been designin my box via manufacturers specifications. My box says that I will have a -3dB dropoff at 35Hz, and a Tuning Frequency of 36 Hz. I understand the -3dB, but what is the Tuning Frequency? Also my sub has a resonant frequency (Fb) of 37.4 Hz. I understand that this is the...

Driving dual voice coil sub with two independent stereo channels

Earthman - what don't you like about the setup? I am matching 350 watts RMS to a 400 watt RMS speaker. Do you mean that it is too "underpowered"? I always thought that I'd want to underpower a speaker, not overpower it and risk blowing it.

Box Porting - is location important?

Thanks for your quick response! You're correct - I'd be cutting 4" off of the port. Hmm, that makese sense that I'd be making it a higher frequency... You're right, I could make it lower. Or I could extend the port out into the ramp and try to make it flush. Would the location of the port...

Box Porting - is location important?

Hey everyone, I am building a custom box at 3.5 ft^3 as per the manufacturers specs on my sub (Audiobahn Natural Sound 12"). I am building a box that is probably only 16" deep total, but the last 8" is a ramped surface (so the port wall will not go that far..) - See Diagram 3. This means that...
