Hmmm it can be tricky but I turn my gain up till I hear distortion, then turn it down a notch. If I still hear it while driving I have a bass nob to turn it down some more. I guess if you're looking for an exact setting I couldn't tell ya

The port is actually on the back left side, the sub came with all the dimensions of the box for building. And yeah who woulda thought making a big box could be so tricky
