Please Help,.... I am using a Rockford Fostage Amp kit, how come the terminals do not fit the 8 gauge wire?

It is an old *** Fosgate that I have had laying around for years, I think that the AMP is the prob, but now I am kinda affraid to try it. Also I was touching the ground cable looking for a ground, so it was not a good connection, could that do that??
