    Totally Perplexed: Harsh Sounding Tweeter

I simply cannot bring the tweeters outside of the door panels. I know that very well may be the culprit, but the installation needs to remain 100% stock in appearance.

    Totally Perplexed: Harsh Sounding Tweeter

There are no mid-bands in the headunit, Bass and treble only. I was screwing around with some settings tonight and turns out the "Loudness" setting was turned on, which boosts treble at low volume levels, might explain why the tweeter picked up alot sooner than the woofers.

    Totally Perplexed: Harsh Sounding Tweeter

Sorry, Yes that is what I am planning on trying when I get a chance this weekend. I'm also going to move the tweeters closer to the front of the door panel as they are sitting quite a bit recessed inside the factory tweeter "cup" right now, which might be having a similar effect to horn loading...

    Totally Perplexed: Harsh Sounding Tweeter

The Diamonds were so incredibly bright on the sound board, even when attenuated. I had to add an additional 5.6ohm series resistor to the tweeter just to smooth it out. The Diamonds sounded clearer and more detailed than the Alpines, which by comparison sounded rather muddy and muffled...

    Totally Perplexed: Harsh Sounding Tweeter

I was just taking a wild *** guess to be honest. Its possible what I am hearing is that 1.5khz hump shown in the attached graph in the first post, or a higher order distortion by-product. No amount of tweeter adjustment makes the shouty sound of the tweeters go away, but covering the tweeters...

    Totally Perplexed: Harsh Sounding Tweeter

Sorry, The speakers are Alpine Type R SPR-17S. Tweeters are mounted in the factory location behind the doorpanel.

    Totally Perplexed: Harsh Sounding Tweeter

I cant for the life of me figure out whats contributing to the harshness of my install. I've taken measurements using a calibrated microphone and have set the tweeter level slightly below the average. Regardless of attenuation the speakers still sound way too edgy. After about 5 minutes I want...

Running Left/Right Tweeters at Different levels

The speakers are Alpine type R SPR-17S. The tweeters are adjustable from 0 to -8. I cant seem to get the treble to sound smooth. When I turn down the tweeters to compensate I cant seem to get them to image right. It could be caused by diffraction off the door panel. On a side note, the tweeters...

Running Left/Right Tweeters at Different levels

I put them in the factory recessed area inside the door panel. I wanted a stock looking install, no new holes in any of the door panels. You can see in this picture where the tweeter goes up in front of the door handle.

Running Left/Right Tweeters at Different levels

I have my tweeters mounted in the door panel in the factory location. The drivers tweeter is much futher off axis than the passenger tweeter. How common is it to run the drivers side tweeter slightly higher than the passenger tweeter to compensate for the off axis high frequency roll off?

Which Would you run as Front Stage Components? Alpine Type R or Diamond D662A

Just took some measurements on the D662's. First Impression... Bright! On axis that is. Havent had time to fool around with the Alpines much, but they sound alot more controlled up top.
