No, if you disconnect it all the time only the two knobs will light up, all the other buttons will be off. When the illumination wire is wired correctly to the headlights, when you turn on headlights, the display will dim and all the buttons will light up.

I have a 00 honda civic, was thinking of looking under the dashboard and find any wire leading to the headlights. Its a mess under there with all the wiring I have for my alarm :S Dunno how i'm gonna do this

I found out what the problem was. The illumination wire was connected to my Ignition wire, it the HU was built so that when the illumination wire (normally connected to the headlamp system) will dim the display. Wow, disconnected the orange/white wire now it all bright. Now just gotta figure...

I had it installed by the dealer, at night I can see that everything is working. I think the display is just bad. So are you able to see the display during the day? thanks
