subwoofer acoustics in a big freakin' van?

Know anything about acoustics? I've been around car & home audio for over 20 yrs & it's still largely a mystery to me. Here's the situation - I'm pimping out the van, a massive 14 passenger Ford with an interior length of over 12'. I have a 15" sub in a makeshift sealed box that I'm...

    Check out this Install...

Hey Dave, nice work so far. Read thru the post & looked over your schematic, just wanted to tell you your instincts are good & you're going in the right directions (things like wire guage, etc), so don't feel like you have to yield to every piece of advice these yahoos throw at you...

    cause or effect?

Below are pics of a cooked SS ref 5 amp, around 10 yrs old. Just died on me. Inspection reveals 2 (totally) blown caps. Question is, are the cooked caps the cause of the problem or only a symptom? Overview: Input section, blown up cap, literally: Maybe the output section? Cap melted...

To use or not to use rear fill

    Old School?

Thanks, it's mostly wall art at this point. Contemplating getting that channel fixed but it's only 80w x1, and probably not worth the $$. I may install it into a passenger van project, who knows.

    Old School?

DCA-3500 5-channel. Cosmetically in almost perfect shape, but the 5th channel (sub channel) has an output problem. Other 4 chnls sound amazing.

    Wiring help

Are your amps really one in front & one in back? if they fit under the seat, do them both up there. Otherwise I'd do both in the trunk. Run a single 4g to a distro block, then 8 g to each amp - that's all you'll need. (2) 8g grounds to the same spot in the trunk. 16g speaker wire should...

    need amp help

No door speakers? Mustangs usually take 6.5's in the door, that 3.5 is maybe the dash location just over the vents? Forget that, go to the door.

    4 channel amp that'll do 2 X 100 + 1 X 400

    need amp help

WPC = watts per channel PPI = Precision Power (industries?) amps First off, it's rear fill, meaning you ain't gonna hear much of it. Most ppl use a lot less power in rear vs front unless going for the surround sound thing. 100 wpc is a lot of power back there. Hifonics was once very good...

Alpine PDX Class D amps - How is the SQ?

I've tried them & wasn't too happy. The SQ just wasn't there for me. Compared to A/B amps, two big issues I had were a soft low end lacking impact (but EQ-able) and a less-realistic sound. If you were around when CD's started outflanking vinyl & you ever got to hear a good turntable...
