Thanks for the information. Don't mean to scare anyone. I know you would need to turn up the gains on an amp 1/2 the size to acheive the same sound output of a larger sized amp. This completely answers my question.

Is there a bigger draw on the electrical system of a car when you use a 500w amp to power 2 - 12" subs with the gains turned up to handle the load vs. using a larger sized amp and keep the gains turned down. Thanks for the help.

Forget the bass boost, if you are looking for crisp tight bass in your sound system adjust the gain and leave the bass boost at 0. The bass boost on most amps creates a muffled boomyness sound with little sound definition.
