I have had noise problems in the past due to ground problems. I found that the thing that works for me is to run all my equipment grounds to a dist. block and then a large wire, at least 4 gauge, directly to the neg. battery terminal. Works for me, does anyone else do this?

Another factor to consider is that the CD1E horn is a piezo driver that is a capacitive load rather than a resistive load on the amp. Some amps do not drive capacitive loads well, it could be that your muting is the amp going into protection mode and lowering the signal. A clue to this is that...
